Murals on Kelly's Island

I was invited to paint scripture murals at Camp Patmos on Kelly's Island. It has been a whirlwind of a month, so I scheduled it for my only available weekend, the morning after driving to Cincinnati and then Kentucky and home in one day on Friday. In fact the morning I was leaving for the ferry to get me to the island, I realized I should probably bring a change of clothes and all....

Needless to say I was not thinking this all through clearly.... until I was surrounded by this.

The two buildings I was asked to paint....well, actually I was asked to do the big one - two windows and I asked to do the door and the door of the small one. They are so cool.

It did not take long to acclimate. Talk about plein air painting, this was the most amazing weekend.

Painting by the water, wind blowing, ducks and so many other birds, like the blue heron that walked along the dock a few feet away from me. Sunday morning I even startled a tiny fawn that was sleeping by my mural. Refreshed and renewed from deep within. Even though I painted for most of the time I was there, not once did it feel like work, felt like therapy and a vacation all rolled into one.

Had to move into the medical office where my daughter works as the camp nurse - such a cute space. The storm kicked up FAST...and then just as quickly was gone.

The finished door - after a revision or two. You can't see it, but the waves were crashing so much the water was hitting me as i finished up.
