I was invited to paint scripture murals at Camp Patmos on Kelly's Island. It has been a whirlwind of a month, so I scheduled it for my only available weekend, the morning after driving to Cincinnati and then Kentucky and home in one day on Friday. In fact the morning I was leaving for the ferry to get me to the island, I realized I should probably bring a change of clothes and all....
Needless to say I was not thinking this all through clearly.... until I was surrounded by this.
It did not take long to acclimate. Talk about plein air painting, this was the most amazing weekend.
Painting by the water, wind blowing, ducks and so many other birds, like the blue heron that walked along the dock a few feet away from me. Sunday morning I even startled a tiny fawn that was sleeping by my mural. Refreshed and renewed from deep within. Even though I painted for most of the time I was there, not once did it feel like work, felt like therapy and a vacation all rolled into one.
